Membership Contract

Last updated: 2026-06-01

This is a courtesy translation. The German version is the legally binding text; in case of discrepancies, the German version prevails.

1. Scope

This contract is concluded between:

atelier yuniku klg, Brahmsstrasse 76, 8003 Zürich (hereinafter “atelier yuniku”) and the accepting person (hereinafter “member” or “members”).

Deviating or supplementary provisions to this contract apply and take precedence over this contract only if agreed with atelier yuniku in writing, and only for the respective individual case. In case of doubt, the membership conditions of this contract prevail.

2. Offer and conclusion of contract

2.1 Membership models

Upon conclusion of the contract, the member chooses one of the following options:

Annual membership
CHF 155.– per month
or CHF 1’680.– paid upfront (equivalent to CHF 140.– / month)

Six-month membership
CHF 175.– per month
or CHF 960.– paid upfront (equivalent to CHF 160.– / month)

Three-month membership
CHF 200.– per month
or CHF 540.– paid upfront (equivalent to CHF 180.– / month)

Upfront payment is granted a 10% discount compared to monthly payment. All prices include statutory VAT.

atelier yuniku reserves the right to adjust prices as needed. Price changes apply exclusively to newly concluded memberships, or after renewal of the membership from the start of the new membership period.

2.2 Material and firing costs

Materials obtained at atelier yuniku (e.g. clay, paints, fabrics, glazes) are not included in the membership fee and must be paid separately. Current prices are posted next to the respective materials in the atelier or can be requested from atelier yuniku.

Firing costs for ceramics are as follows:

  • Bisque firing: CHF 8/kg
  • Bisque firing incl. engobe: CHF 12/kg
  • Glaze firing incl. glaze: CHF 12/kg

2.3 Conclusion of contract

Membership applications are considered in the order in which they are received. The contract between atelier yuniku and the member is concluded upon the member’s acceptance of this membership contract as part of the online signup and confirmation by atelier yuniku. By submitting a membership application or an order, the member accepts the general terms and conditions.

2.4 Waiting list

If no membership places are available, interested persons can be placed on the waiting list. As soon as a place becomes available, atelier yuniku will give notice. The interested person must then sign up for the membership independently as quickly as possible. Everyone is treated equally — regardless of the desired membership duration or whether they are a former member or course participant.

3. Contents of the membership subscription

3.1 Introduction

Upon conclusion of the first membership, an introduction session with atelier yuniku is scheduled. It lasts about 60 minutes and is included in the membership price. Until this instruction — and, where applicable, training on machines and tools — has taken place, use of the atelier is not permitted.

3.2 Minimum knowledge requirements

Access to the respective work area requires the member’s participation in at least one workshop, or otherwise acquired knowledge, in the discipline to be practised. The member must be able to carry out all work steps and handle the materials used independently and competently. Exceptions can be granted in consultation with atelier yuniku, particularly for disciplines that involve neither cost-intensive nor delicate tools, machines, or materials. In any case, before taking up a new discipline, the member must contact atelier yuniku to receive the necessary instructions and guidance, as the general introduction does not cover all crafts.

3.3 Discounts on courses and workshops

Every member benefits from up to 30% discount on selected courses and workshops. These are announced in the group chat.

To claim the discount for courses and workshops, the membership must be active until the day of the last course session.

3.4 Q&A sessions

If a member needs support or has questions, a Q&A session can be booked for CHF 50. A session lasts a maximum of one hour. Further sessions can be booked as needed.

The Q&A session is generally intended for clarifying specific questions (troubleshooting). In justified individual cases, it can also be used for a short introduction to a new discipline, for example when no course is currently offered in that discipline.

3.5 Guests

Members may bring guests to craft together. Members benefit from a 50% discount on guest passes: CHF 20 instead of CHF 40 for a 3-hour session. Guests must be registered in advance and approved by atelier yuniku. Guests may only visit and use the atelier accompanied by a member. The member is fully responsible for the guest. Guests must sign their ceramic works the same way as their host, and material costs must be paid via TWINT at the time of purchase. The costs of the firing service incl. glaze/engobe are charged to the member after firing. The member is responsible for ensuring that guests collect their fired objects within one month of firing.

3.6 Personal storage

Members receive a labelled plastic storage box (38×51×30 cm) in the basement and are entitled to one shelf per member.

Additional storage space can be obtained — subject to availability and space requirements — for a fair surcharge. The price is CHF 20 per additional shelf per month. For special storage needs, the member should contact atelier yuniku to discuss a suitable solution.

3.7 Coffee, tea, and food

Coffee and tea are available to members while supplies last. There is no entitlement to regular provision by atelier yuniku.

Members may bring their own food and store it briefly in the small fridge. Once a month, all unlabelled and/or expired food items are removed and disposed of.

4. Access and use of the premises

4.1 Access and opening hours

The subscription includes free access to the studio premises of atelier yuniku for 24 hours per week during regular opening hours, as well as use of its infrastructure, facilities, and equipment. This is intended to prevent individual members from using the atelier as a full-time workplace or claiming it excessively.

Members receive access via the Bold Smart Lock system per app. Access credentials are personal and must not be shared. The atelier is generally accessible daily from 08:00 to 22:00. Access outside these hours is officially not permitted — but if you arrive a little earlier or leave a little later, no problem, ±1 hour of leeway is perfectly fine.

Usage times and access to the atelier can be adjusted, restricted, or prohibited by atelier yuniku as needed. There is no entitlement to constant or unrestricted access.

4.2 No fixed workstations

Members may move freely within the member zone and use available workstations. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no entitlement to use specific rooms, areas, or facilities at specific times or exclusively.

4.3 Use of the member room and course room

The course room may only be used by members when no courses are taking place. Courses always have priority. Members undertake to leave the room in good time as soon as a course begins or is announced. As a rule, tools and at least one machine (e.g. a pottery wheel) remain available in the member room while courses or workshops take place.

For larger events, the member room may occasionally also be used. This should happen at most once per month. Members will be informed in advance.

4.4 Closure of the workrooms

The workrooms may also be temporarily closed at any time due to maintenance work, training, or other organisational reasons. In such cases, atelier yuniku informs members in advance. There is no entitlement to a refund due to the aforementioned closures.

4.5 No tenancy

Members are entitled to use the atelier exclusively within the scope of their membership. Expressly, no tenancy in the sense of a room rental or sublease agreement is created. The membership does not establish any permanent possession, domiciliary, or usage right over specific areas or facilities. The atelier remains at all times in the sole possession and under the authority of atelier yuniku.

4.6 Commercial or illegal use

Use of the atelier is intended exclusively for the personal use of members. Commercial activities, such as operating a business within the premises, are not permitted without the express approval of atelier yuniku. The atelier is not designed for such intensive use, as fair and equal use of the space by all members could otherwise no longer be guaranteed. Hobby-level sale of objects made in the atelier is, however, permitted.

Any illegal or harmful use, including the production of dangerous or impermissible materials, is strictly prohibited.

5. Atelier rules

To guarantee a pleasant and smooth coexistence, every member undertakes to follow these rules:

  • Take up only as much space as needed for working
  • Always treat other users and the space with respect and care
  • Smoking in the atelier and near the windows is not permitted.
  • Phone calls are only allowed outside the premises
  • Computers should not be brought into the atelier. The atelier is primarily a place of craftsmanship. The administratively responsible people of atelier yuniku also always try to keep their computer work in the atelier premises to a necessary minimum.
  • Music may only be played with the consideration and consent of everyone present, and at a normal volume
  • During statutory quiet hours (midday quiet 12:00–13:00, evening quiet on weekdays from 20:00, Saturdays from 18:00, and all day on Sundays and other public holidays), no noise-intensive activities may be carried out and no loud music may be played
  • Particular consideration for the neighbours must be shown when spending time in front of the atelier
  • Dogs are only allowed with written permission and must be supervised.

To ensure the safety and health of all persons in the atelier, the following rules also apply:

  • Used work areas and floors must always be thoroughly cleaned after use. Clay and glaze residues must be completely removed from tables, tools, and floors. This minimises fine dust from clay and glaze powder and contributes to everyone’s health.
  • Members are obliged to wipe their personal shelf space with a damp cloth at least once a month to reduce the accumulation of silica dust.
  • Used dishes, tools, and materials must be washed, dried, and returned to their designated place after use.
  • The entrance door must always be locked
  • Bringing additional people into the atelier is not permitted, with the exception of the expressly regulated guest policy (see section 3.5).
  • Children under 16 may only enter the atelier accompanied by an adult.
  • Children under 7 may only enter the atelier if the member can devote undivided attention to them and carries out a creative activity together with the child.
  • Operating the kilns is reserved exclusively for atelier yuniku or persons expressly authorised by atelier yuniku.
  • For safety reasons, the area in, on, and around the kilns must be kept clear at all times. Placing objects in this area is prohibited.
  • Independent mixing of glazes by members is not permitted; this requires guidance or approval by atelier yuniku.
  • Works that do not meet the applicable safety or quality standards — in particular works with third-party clay or improperly applied glaze — can be excluded from firing (see section 6.3).
  • The use of your own tools or materials is permitted, with the exception of the pottery area. It must be ensured that they are compatible with the existing facilities and do not pose a hazard to other members or equipment (see also section 9.4).

Members who violate the atelier rules or behave in a way that endangers the well-being or safety of other members can be excluded by atelier yuniku at its discretion, immediately or after a written warning.

6. Specific rules for pottery/ceramics

6.1 Clay, glazes, engobes

Clay, glazes, and firing curves must be precisely matched to achieve optimal results and ensure a safe firing process. Our clays and glazes have been carefully tested over a long period and matched to our firing curves. At the same time, we offer a wide selection of different clays, so that suitable material can be found for almost any project.

Since clays and glazes are developed for different firing temperatures, and unsuitable materials can cause considerable damage to our kilns and to the works of others, the use of clay and glazes brought from outside is not permitted in our atelier.

6.2 Firing service frequency

All firings are carried out exclusively by atelier yuniku. As a rule, firings take place weekly, alternating between bisque and glaze firing. The actual frequency, however, depends on whether enough works are available to fill the kiln sensibly. In individual cases, the firing process may therefore take longer.

There is no entitlement to expedited firing. Urgent requests can, however, be accommodated where possible; in such cases, atelier yuniku must be informed early.

After each firing, members are notified in the group chat as soon as their works are ready for collection.

6.3 Works ready for bisque firing

All pieces placed on the shelf “Ready for bisque firing” (“Bereit für den Schrühbrand”) are considered ready to fire. Once the works have been placed there and fired by our team, the materials can no longer be recycled. Members undertake to pay for all bisque-fired works, even if the result does not meet their personal expectations.

6.4 Works ready for glaze firing

All pieces placed on the shelf “Ready for glaze firing” (“Bereit für den Glasurbrand”) are considered ready for glaze firing. Members must ensure that the works are correctly prepared for glaze firing, in particular that the base is thoroughly cleaned. atelier yuniku reserves the right not to fire objects whose glazes have not been properly applied.

6.5 Signature

All objects must be marked on the outside of the base with the same, clearly legible signature. This ensures that works can be reliably assigned to the respective member. atelier yuniku reserves the right not to fire objects that cannot be assigned. Guests record their signature on the list above the kiln and mark their objects as well.

6.6 Disclaimer for damage

Working with clay and glazes is a beautiful but often unpredictable process. Firing curves, temperature, glaze, and clay are finely tuned by us over many test runs. Nevertheless, errors in the production process (most commonly air pockets in the clay, uneven wall thicknesses, and uneven glaze application), or in particular the use of self-supplied, not 100% compatible clay, can occasionally lead to cracks, breaks, air pockets in the glaze, and other damage.

These risks are a natural part of the ceramic craft, and atelier yuniku cannot be held liable for them. atelier yuniku therefore cannot offer replacements or refunds for damaged works — but we are always happy to help the member understand the cause and improve their technique for next time.

7. Payment terms

7.1 Membership fees

Payments for memberships are made either as a total amount in advance, or are automatically debited monthly from the stored payment method. Payment is due in advance, at the latest by the subscription start date.

The membership subscription fee is also due if the member does not use the atelier and its infrastructure. Exceptions are regulated in sections 8.2 and 8.3.

If a payment is not made within the deadline, the membership fee or course fee is considered overdue. atelier yuniku reserves the right to charge reminder fees of CHF 10 for each reminder. In case of unsuccessful reminders or repeated late payment, atelier yuniku can terminate the membership immediately and suspend participation in courses and workshops. The total amount for the contract term becomes due for payment.

7.2 Material purchases

Material is paid via TWINT directly upon purchase. Instructions for TWINT payment are posted in the atelier.

Exception: the costs for firing and glazing ceramic objects are paid only after firing, upon collection of the objects. atelier yuniku weighs the objects after unloading the kiln and informs each member of the amount owed, so that the member can settle it via TWINT upon collection.

8. Contract renewal, pausing, and termination

8.1 Automatic subscription renewal

Unless a timely termination occurs or notice of a change to another subscription is received, the membership renews automatically for the original contract duration under unchanged conditions.

8.2 Cooling-off period for the annual subscription

For the annual membership, a cooling-off period of 30 days from conclusion of the contract is granted. Within this period, the member can withdraw from the contract. In this case, only the first monthly instalment is due: CHF 155.– for monthly payment, or CHF 140.– for upfront payment. For upfront payment, the remaining amount is refunded via the same payment method used for the original payment.

8.3 Termination or change of membership

A termination or change of the membership subscription must be made 30 days before the end of the contract term. If it is made later, one additional monthly amount at the current 3-month price is charged.

Early termination of the subscription is not possible unless there is good cause. In that case, termination is possible, but only upon presentation of appropriate proof. If early termination of a discounted (e.g. annual) membership is granted, the corresponding price for the shorter membership duration is charged retroactively. Example: if an annual membership is terminated after 6 months, the six-month rate is applied retroactively and the difference must be paid.

Upon termination, the membership remains active until the original renewal date.

Members who grossly violate the membership conditions or are in arrears with their payments can have their membership subscription terminated without notice and be denied access to the studio premises of atelier yuniku. In this case, there is no entitlement to a refund of the remaining amount.

8.4 Pausing the membership

In case of accident, prolonged illness, maternity or paternity leave, and travel lasting longer than 3 weeks, the membership subscription can be paused for the duration of the respective absence. A corresponding request must be submitted in writing, accompanied by a medical certificate. An administration fee of CHF 20 is payable for pausing the subscription.

8.5 Transferability of the membership

The membership is not transferable.

9. Final provisions

9.1 Data privacy policy

atelier yuniku undertakes to protect members’ personal data in accordance with applicable data protection laws. All data is treated confidentially and used only for administering the membership and organising courses and events. atelier yuniku does not pass on personal data to third parties unless this is necessary for the performance of the contractual agreements or required by law.

9.2 Changes to the general terms and conditions

atelier yuniku reserves the right to adjust the general terms and conditions as needed and after prior notification of members. Members have 30 days to object to the changes; otherwise, they are deemed accepted.

9.3 Validity of the general terms and conditions

Should any provision of these terms be or become invalid, the remainder remains unaffected. The invalid clause will be replaced by a legally permissible provision that comes closest to its economic purpose. Changes to the contract content or the terms will be communicated in writing.

9.4 Liability and insurance

Use of the atelier is at your own risk. Members are aware that working in a workshop involves risks (e.g. sharp tools, hot surfaces, electrical equipment, dust). All members are obliged to pay attention to their own safety and the safety of other persons present and objects on site, and to carefully follow all instructions for using the workshops, equipment, and tools. atelier yuniku accepts no liability for injuries or damage arising from improper use of the equipment — not even in cases of slight negligence.

Members are fully liable for all damage arising from their use of the atelier. A valid personal liability insurance that also covers damage to third-party facilities (e.g. workshops, ateliers) in the context of craft, design, or creative activities is therefore strongly recommended. Damage to materials provided by atelier yuniku or to the atelier’s equipment must be reported immediately. The costs for repairs, cleaning, or replacement of damaged materials, tools, and equipment will be invoiced to the member.

atelier yuniku accepts no liability for the loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings, materials, or tools. Safe storage is at your own risk and responsibility.

9.5 Jurisdiction and applicable law

Swiss law applies. The place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from this contract is Zürich. By accepting this contract as part of the online signup, the member confirms having read and understood it.
