
PAPER MARBLING WORKSHOP: Explore the Art of Ebru Marbling
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore the traditional art of Ebru, a centuries-old paper marbling technique from Turkey where colors float and move across water to create unique, flowing patterns. Each piece is completely one of a kind, formed by your own movements on the surface of the water.
Using special brushes and combs, you’ll create a range of marbled effects - from organic stone-like textures and wave patterns to delicate floral motifs. You’ll also learn how to work with natural earth pigments and build layered compositions directly on water before transferring them onto paper.
The result is a series of beautifully marbled papers, each capturing a moment of movement and color. These can be taken home the same day and used for bookbinding, creative projects, or as unique gift wrap.

Ebru Özel is an art educator (IAC Zurich) who has been working with traditional Ebru art, the technique of marbling and painting on water, for many years. In her marbling courses at the atelier, she introduces the history, materials and techniques of Ebru and guides participants as colours on water turn into unique marbled papers and images. She shares her passion at events and studios, creating a calm, exploratory space where people can experience the meditative quality of this ancient art form.
